August Birthstone | PERIDOT

The birthstone for the month of August is peridot. Peridot is one of the few gemstones to occur in only colour but can vary in intensity with dark olive-green gem quality peridot considered the most desirable due to its rarity.

Ancient Romans often referred to peridot as the “evening emerald” because of the soft glow of the stone under moon and lamplight. Like many other green gemstones, peridot is reputed to aid the wearer in attracting wealth. This olivine mineral is also thought to ward off evil and promote feelings of friendship and love.
